Stakeholder perspectives on adoption of district energy systems

Throughout 2010 and 2011, the industry association representing members with an interest in promoting the growth of district energy (DE) systems in Canada conducted research into stakeholder perspectives on the vision for its widespread adoption in Canadian communities.

A three-pronged research approach consisting of an online survey, one-on-one interviews, and group consultations across Canada formed the foundation on which extensive consultation was conducted. Over 200 energy and policy stakeholders across Canada participated by providing their own perspectives and insights in three areas:

  • The vision for District Energy (DE) over the next 20 years;
  • The perceived and existing challenges for developing and/or expanding DE systems; and
  • The most effective ways of overcoming these challenges for the industry to grow into the future.

C2C Strategies contributed to the survey design, managed the stakeholder consultation processes, project managed the closing education sessions in Ontario and Alberta, and contributed to the report framework and writing.
